CCTV Camera Installation Instructions

Please Note: These instructions are a guide only. Cricklewood Electronics holds no liability for any damage/loss caused by the following instructions. |
1. Running The Cables:
Run the cables safely, so as not to be a hazard or cause an accident. Do not bend the cable too much as it may cause signal-loss.
2. Connect Power To CCTV Camera:
Using individual power supplies for each camera can be a good idea. That way if one power supply fails then you will only lose one camera rather than your whole system. Alternatively one or two larger power supplies can be used to run multiple cameras from each source.
Power supply leads (cables) can be extended by using terminal-blocks. Make sure Positive and Negative are connected correctly, as reversal may permanently damage cameras. The wire with the white stripe is the positive and the black wire is the negative. Utilising shotgun cable (RG59 coax with the power wire attached) can save time as the power wires are already attached to the coax so you only need run one wire.
3. Attaching The Twist-on BNC Connector To Coax Cable:
Attaching the BNC connector to the cable properly is very important to maintain a good connection. Care should be taken to do a good job.

A: Strip approx 20mm of the outer sheath with a sharp knife being careful not to damage the outer shield wires. |
B: Chamfer the edge of the black sheath to make it easier to screw the BNC connector on to the wire. |
| |
C: Fold the outer shielding wires and foil back over the outer sheath. |
D: Leave a small length of the inner white insulation (to stop the two wires from shorting), then strip the rest of the inner insulation off being careful not to damage the inner core wire. |

E: The length of the inner core wire is important to make a reliable connection. The core wire should click into connector just before the BNC connector reaches the black outer sheath (17mm as shown). |
F: Now carefully insert the inner core wire into the small hole in the middle of the BNC connector. Now simply screw the BNC connector on to the cable in a clockwise direction for about 5 turns. Job done! |
4. Connect CCTV Cameras To Digital Video Recorder "DVR":
Once the BNC connectors are attached to the cable simply push and turn the connector onto one of the CC-TV camera inputs. Some of the DVRs have loop outputs to which you should not connect a camera. Turn the DVR on last as it can then automatically detect whether the camera is NTSC or PAL. (PAL is used in the UK).
5. Connect Monitor To DVR:
The DVR has two monitor outputs. These are labelled on the back as MONITOR and VCR (DVR). With your BNC to Phono cable you can connect to a TV or monitor. Also included is a Phono – Scart adaptor so you can connect the monitor output to a Scart input such as a TV. You can only use a computer monitor using a VGA to composite adaptor (we can supply).
